Local Roundtables
Lane County Roundtable Meeting November 9th The first formal meeting of the Lane County roundtable of OFRAH will be on Tuesday, Nov. 9th at 2:00 pm at Food for Lane County.
In September.... OFRAH expands to Lane County On Tuesday, September 14, at United Lutheran Church in Eugene, members of the religious community, anti-hunger advocates, and members of OFRAH met to discuss the possibility of beginning another OFRAH group—a local roundtable—to address the hunger issues unique to Lane County. The Conveners have decided to expand OFRAH by establishing local roundtables across the state of Oregon that can address the specific needs of individual communities as well as serve as a network through which statewide education, collaboration and advocacy can occur.
Tuesday’s meeting included religious leaders from the Lutheran and Methodist denominations as well as anti-hunger advocates from Food for Lane County. The attendees discussed the mission and vision of OFRAH as well as the ways that the existing roundtable can offer resources to the Lane County roundtable as it seeks to invite members from among different denominations and faith traditions.
“I was pleased to see the strength and commitment of the faith community of Lane County to meet the needs of their neighbors who are hungry,” said OFRAH Lead Convener Norene Goplen. “I know that the collaboration that they are beginning to enter will be significant in helping those in need.”
Erin Hoekstra, a hunger fellow from the Congressional Hunger Center in Washington, DC will be working with OFRAH for the next six months. During her time here, she will be establishing local roundtables like this one in Lane County. If you are interested in beginning a roundtable in your area or would like more information about OFRAH and the local roundtables, please contact her at ehoekstra@hungercenter.org.
