Initiated: June 2003 by 16
representatives of faith
organizations
Monthly meetings began in the Portland Metro
Area
Each meeting focused on a particular root cause of Hunger in
Oregon October
2003
Official beginning of the
organization
Harvest of Hope Breakfast at Neveh Shalom
Congregation
Governor Kulongoski provided the Keynote
message.
Harvest of Hope Honors were bestowed on those who had provided leadership in
addressing hunger:
a statewide faith organization, the Salvation Army with eighty seven direct
service sites;
a community group, the Family Kitchen of Bend where nine churches have jointly
provided
meals for 17 years to those who were hungry; and to a leader in hunger advocacy
in state
government, Robert Castagna of the Oregon Catholic Conference.
Mid-Winter 2004
Participation in the Governors 5 year plan to address
Hunger, developed
by the Oregon Hunger Relief Task
Force.
Basic research on direct service agency activities, tax reform,
affordable housing, predatory lending and other financial practices
which provide barriers for those in
poverty.
Development of OFRAH Bylaws, forms of membership,
and
Outreach process to faith
communities.
Continuing development of hunger advocates with focus on
the
Relationship with Local Hunger Roundtables.
Spring 2004
First Annual Spring Hunger Conference with leaders of two
National hunger organizations. Mazon and Bread for the
World
Extensive workshops to prepare knowledgeable and effective
advocates
Formal Recruitment of Major Faith Communities begins..
Summer 2004
